We all know a bit about Viking lore. We know they raided and conquered. We know Leif Eriksson landed in North America. But WHY did Vikings go raiding so far from their homelands? Do you know what a “knorr” or a “holmgang” or a “Thing” are? This Viking Age resource may be used as an introduction (or as an end unit followup) to the Scandinavian explorers known as Norsemen or Vikings.
My students had fun reading and learning about the Viking Age. Even I learned new vocabulary! 🙂 Below is a peek at a few of the illustrated reading passages. We spent time discussing what the students could interpret from the illustrations. These illustrations helped my students visually comprehend what they were reading.
